RECTOR S.A.O ADEGOKE DELIVERS 2ND QUARTER, NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS INTELLECTUAL DISCOURSE LECTURE.

The Rector of Osun State College of Technology Esa-Oke, Dr Samson Akinbamide Omobayo Adegoke on Wednesday 23rd August delivered a lecture at the 2nd Quarter Intellectual Discourse of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists.

The theme of the Rector's Lecture is "EMPOWERING NIGERIANS FOR LIFE IN THE CHANGING WORLD OF WORK: THE IMPERATIVE OF TVET AND MICRO CREDENTIALS"

The Rector in his lecture dwelled on the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Micro-Credentials in the world of work of today.

According to him, to meet up with the work challenges of today requires up skilling, new skills acquisition and acquiring Certificates and Competencies. The focus of Education people should acquire must be such that prepares the trainees for life; thus, there must be less focus on paper qualification more on skills acquisition i.e there should be shift of emphasis from degree acquisition to skills acquisition.

The Nigeria as well as Global labour market is currently undergoing change; it is no longer the certificate one has but the skill an individual has acquired that can make him compete favourably in the world of work of today.

Micro-Credentials are described as brief, focused learning or certification that people can acquire to show off particular abilities or competency. The combination of TVET and Micro-Credentials provide the all important opportunities to stay contemporary through re-skilling and up-skilling.

Present at the occasion are dignitaries including the Royal father of the day, His Royal Majesty, Oba, Professor Joseph Oloyede, the Apetumodu of lpetumodu; the Chairman Governing Council of the College, Hon., Prince Diran Odeyemi; Osun State Commissioner of information, Barristers Kolapo Alimi; gentlemen of the press including veterans in the field; members of OSCOTECH Management, Staff and Students, among others dignitaries.
