Osun State College Of Technology Esa-Oke Signs Memorandum of Understanding with State Of Osun Produce Board

The Management of Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke took another giant stride on Tuesday 16th January, 2018 when it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the State of Osun produce Board on partnership in the area of farming.

In his welcome address, the Ag.Rectors, Dr.S.A.O.Adegokeemphasize the need for technological Institute like ours to have positive impact on Agricultural production as a way of contributing to the development of Agriculture in the state. He express his delight in the MOU because the College is already at the final stage of floating a programme in Agricultural Engineering and Agric Technology which will further allow the input of the Institute in the area of research.

In his own comment, the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Board and the Chief Executive Officer, Dr.YemiAdegoke informed the management that is part of the vision of the State Government of Osun to diversify the economy of the State towards Agricultural production. He cited an example of many thousand years ago when Qxens were used to plough by farmers but expressed shock that our famers are still using cutlasses and hoes now in the twenty first century. The purpose of the Board according to him is to ensure the introduction of new technology to farmers so as to increase the quality and quantity of output of farmers and their income. He also stress the need for technological institutions like OSCOTECH to be able to impact positively on its environment. He emphasized that the partnership will add value to farming in order to make money for the people. He advocated for a commercial farm and Research/Demonstration farm by the College to be managed by professionals and that the Board will be the third party.

The Osun Produce Board (OPB) has agreed to partner with Osun State of Technology, Esa-Oke in three (3) areas of Agricultural business. Viz establishment of Herbarium, Demonstration farms and Commercial farms all with value addition.

Objectives

1. The objective of this MOU is to express the willingness of both parties to engage in efforts to promote the joint development of various fresh marketable agricultural produce and value added products as business as well as development and expand working relationship with farmers in production of herbs, establishment of demonstration Farms and Commercial farming activities.
Specific activities under this MOU will be identified through consultations between the two parties.

2. Osun Produce Board agrees to produce technical assistance to the partner to carry out such activities that will improve and expand agricultural practices as business. The Partners agrees to work and collaborate with the Osun Produce Boar in developing agricultural initiatives to a commercial level for a profit sharing formula. Technical and financial support agreement as well as profit sharing formula for specific activities will be developed through a participator process.
These agreements will be detailed in subsequent Addendum to this MOU.

3. General Terms of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

3.1 Duration of MOU: This MOU shall be operational upon signing and will have an initial duration of four years. All activities conducted before this date within the vision of the joint collaboration will be deemed to fall under this MOU.

3.2 Coordination: In order to carry out and fulfill the aims of this agreement, each party and will appoint an appropriate person(s) to represent its organization and to coordinate the implementation of activities.

3.3 Technical and Financial Support: Any Addendum to this MOU will be developed for specific technical and financial support activities and will produce a detailed description of a role, responsibility, and financial contributions of each party. I will also clearly outline the work plans and reporting requirements.

3.4. Confidentiality: Each party agrees that it shall not, at any time after executing the activities of this MOU, disclose any information in relation to these activities or the affairs of business or method of carrying on the business of each without consent of both parties.

3.5 Termination of the MOU: The partnership covered by this MOU shall terminate upon completion of the project agreed upon. The agreement may also be terminated with a written six months notice from either side. In the event of non-compliance or breach by one of the parties of the obligations binding upon it, the other party may terminate the agreement with immediate effect.

3.6 Extension of the Agreement: The MOU may be extended provided the parties agree upon it and can provide the necessary resources. He envisioned that the venture will within short time start generating money and that staff members especially those in academics can make money from research. Prof. LayiFagbenle in his own remark commend the state government for the establishment of the Produce Board which will give room to technical advancement in Agriculture and the involvement of Institutions that will give room for research and innovation in the planting, harvesting, processing and exportation of some of our products in line with the change agenda of the Federal and State Government.

The MOU was thereafter signed between the Management of the Institution and the State of Osun Produce Board for an effective and efficient partnership between the two organizations.
