DR. S.A.O ADEGOKERector, Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke


Dr. Samson Akinbamide Omobayo Adegoke was born on May 21, 1960 at Ipetumodeu, Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State. He attended St. Charles Grammar School, Osogbo for his secondary school education. Thereafter, he proceeded to the then University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1980 where he bagged Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning in 1986. He later attended The Polytechnic, Ibadan for a Full Professional Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning between 1988 and 1990. In 1988 and 1989, he sat for and passed Parts I and II Final Examinations of Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers respectively. Dr. S.A.O. Adegoke later proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Ibadan where he bagged his Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Urban and Regional Planning in 2001 and 2016 respectively.

Dr. Adegoke started his professional working career as Town Planning Officer at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey, Ibadan, Oyo State from 1987 to 1988; Assistant Project Manager, Ibikunle Lawal and Co. (A firm of Estate Surveyors, Valuers and Town Planners) Lagos, from 1989 to 1990; Senior Estate Surveyor/Branch Manager, Lagos Office of Oyeleke Afolabi & Co. (A firm of Estate Surveyors and Valuers) from 1990 to 1992. He later joined Omole Group of Companies, Ilesa as Group Estate Manager from 1993 to 1995.

Dr. Adegoke’s academic career started in March 1995, when he was invited to join the Estate Management Department of Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke in preparation for accreditation by the then Head of the Department, Mr. J.B. Oluwi (of blessed memory) in order to satisfy the condition of at least two Registered Estate Surveyor and Valuers, before the department can be accredited to run National Diploma programme in Estate Management. He therefore joined the department as a Lecturer I, and rose through the ranks to Senior Lecturer in 2000, Principal Lecturer in 2003 and Chief Lecturer in 2007.

As an academic and administrative legend, Dr. Adegoke served in various capacities and held several academic and administrative appointments and responsibilities both within and outside Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke. Prominent among these are Acting Head, Estate Management Department between April 2002 and 2003 and Acting Dean, Continuing Academic Programme (CAP) between April 2003 and May 2004. In 2003, he was elected the Chairman of Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Osun State branch, the position he held up till 2008. He was a member of National Council of Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers between 2003 and 2010, where he served as member of Education Committee (2004-2010), Member, Board of Examiners (2004-2010), Member, Membership Committee (2004-2009), and National Chairman, Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Committee (2006-2008). Between 2004 and 2012, he was a members of the Faculty Coordinating Committee, Member, Faculty Research Committee, and later (2006 – 2010), Chairman of Faculty Research Committee. In 2012, he was elected the Dean of Faculty of environmental Studies, Chairman, Committee of Deans and Acting Deputy Rector. In December 2013, he was elected as the Deputy Rector, a post he held till July 25, 2017 when he became the Acting Rector. His appointment as the 5th Substantive Rector of Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke was magnanimously approved by the Governor and Visitor to the College, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesole on August 10, 2018.

The relevance of Dr. Adegoke was not limited to Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke. Outside the College, he has served the Polytechnic Community as External Examiner for Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, among others. He has also served as Resource Person to National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Accreditation of National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in many Polytechnics in the Country. He served as External Assessor for the promotion of academic staff of many Polytechnics. He served education sector further as member of Planning and Implementation Committees (PICs) of the following existing and proposed private universities; Achievers University, Owo, Kings University, Ode-Omu; Precious Cornerstone University, Ibadan; Dominion University, Ibadan, Proposed West Midland Open University, Lagos; and Proposed University of Offa, Offa. In 2015, Dr. Adegoke was appointed a member of Board of Trustee, Precious Cornerstone University, Ibadan and in January 2018, he was appointed the first Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of Precious Cornerstone University, Ibadan.

As a professional Estate Surveyor and Valuer, Town Planner and Environmental Assessor and Auditor, he is a Fellow of Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, a member of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners and a member of Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (UK). He is duly registered to practice as an Estate Surveyor and Valuer by Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVRBON) and Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC). As a practitioner with multiple competencies, he has wide experience in the practice of his professions.

As Estate Surveyor and Valuer, he has served as consultant at one time or the other to most Commercial Banks and Insurance Companies in Nigeria, particularly on valuation for mortgage, insurance, purchase, foreclosure, etc. Prominent among these banks are First Bank of Nigeria, First City Monument Bank, Nigeria Export-Import Bank, Heritage Bank, and defunct Afribank. Among the Insurance Companies are World-Wide Insurance, Royal Insurance, Unic Insurance, etc. He is also consultant to many private sectors, corporate organizations, such as Omole Group of companies, Leisure Spring Hotels Limited, Victory International Church, Yinka Oba Nigeria Limited, Spices Nigeria Limited, among others.

As an Urban and Regional Planner and Environmental Assessor, he has carried out the following major professional works: Preparation of Master Plan of Achievers University, Owo, Kings University, Odeomu, Precious Cornerstone University, Ibadan; Dominion University, Ibadan; Delta Atlantic University, West Midland Open University, Lagos and University of Offa, Offa. Also, Dr. Adegoke has carried out Environmental Impact Assessment of 6 No. Millennium Development Goals Small Earth Dams in the Five Eastern States of Nigeria, 7 Private Universities, Environmental Audit Report for Lagos Yatch Club, Lagos; and Environmental Impact Assessment Report on Ife Iron and Steel Company. Dr. Adegoke is a Registered Consultant to National Environmental Standards Regulations and Enforcement Agency (NESREA). As an academic of note, he has many publications, which include a Sole authored book, chapters in books, journal articles and conference proceedings. He attended many conferences, both national and international, where he has presented scholarly papers. As a practicing professional, he also has many technical reports to his credit, covering such areas as valuation, feasibility and viability studies, Urban Renewal, Mortgage Financing, Loan Syndication for Housing Development, among others.

Dr. S.A.O. Adegoke is an academic per excellence, a thorough breed with multidisciplinary background, a professional with multiple competencies and a good blend of academic and industry experience that have greatly enriched his teaching, research and practice. He is happily married and blessed with children.
